The Fruit of Desire: A Reflection on Jannah

Therein for you will be fruits in plenty, of which you will eat as you desire… It’s a verse I keep returning to, not just because of the sweetness, but because of the sheer freedom it portrays. What does it mean to eat as you desire? What desires are we taught to suppress, to moderate, to delay? This is the verse of desires granted, not those that bind us to this world, but those that nourish the soul, those that are the natural expression of the heart set free. It’s a promise of abundance that’s not merely physical, but a spiritual fullness, a satisfaction that’s never curtailed. Perhaps it’s a glimpse into what happens when our hearts are finally at peace, no longer seeking, no longer needing, but simply enjoying. "It’s a journey from need to desire, from lack to fulfillment."

Chapter 43 : Az-Zukhruf, Verse: 73

For you therein will be fruits in plenty whereof ye will eat. (73)

The Idol of Control: Surrendering to Allâh's Wisdom in Divorce

I am struck by the beauty of how this verse begins, reminding us to count the ‘Iddah accurately. This isn’t just about respecting the waiting period; it’s about respecting the wisdom of the Divine timings. And that it ends with ‘you know not what Allâh will bring forth.’ It's an echo of the human condition. We often feel we’re making decisions out of control, and yet, we walk through life with a limited perspective. What feels like a definitive end might be a pause, a formation, a prelude to something new. The verse invites us to surrender the outcome. It's a humbling lesson for anyone who feels they're in control of a situation, particularly those grappling with the end of a marriage. "It's a gentle nudge to release the grip of our agendas, to let go of the narratives we’ve written for ourselves, to accept the waiting period as a sacred space where Allâh’s wisdom is unfolding." "The verse also underscores the importance of dignity and justice. You aren’t allowed to arbitrarily remove your wife from her home. You’re allowed to leave her only if she has done something unlawful. This is an act of justice, a reminder that even in the midst of heartbreak, dignity must be preserved, and it's a call to our own hearts to embrace the wisdom of justice and dignity in all our affairs.
