The Supplication of the Heart: When Reverence Ceases
Sometimes I hear the words, and I feel so little. The Qur’an has such powerful potential to purify our souls, to move us to the point where we are overwhelmed with awe. Yet, this verse reminds me that simply hearing the words is not enough. The prostration is a symbol, isn’t it? A humbling of oneself, a total surrender to the divine. It’s a physical manifestation of the heart bowing down to the One who created everything from nothing. When the Qur’an is recited, do I feel that weight of awe, that longing to connect with the One who speaks to me through these words? Or am I just holding a book, reading letters, and reciting them without truly letting them touch my soul? Sometimes I wonder if it’s not about how much we read, but about how much we allow ourselves to feel while reading." "There are times when I struggle to find that humility, to let go of my ego and simply bow down in reverence. When I sense this happening, I try to recall that humility is not weakness; it's an opening of the heart. It's an invitation to receive grace. It's a recognition that I am nothing without His guidance. If we’re not moved to prostrate, to fall in awe, it’s a sign that our hearts need to be purified. It’s a call to return to the source of humility and gratitude. To truly feel the weight of awe is to truly feel the presence of the Divine.
